the super friendz/ the super friendz

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

well, last night i got the extreme pleasure of seeing the super friendz play
live -- twice! :) <but i'll explain that later> here's my adventure...

i was at the first show, an all ages one where it was a triple bill of the
super friendz, tristan psionic, and the inbreds. super friendz hit the stage
after 7pm and gave a good rawkin' set! they sounded grrrrrrreat! they
played old stuff, and new stuff, and different versions of old stuff... i.e.
"rescue us from boredom". i really love the original, but they said that
they've been playing it a lot and had to change it (which i understand), but
it was my first time hearing it live... the bad parts: the drum pedal (or
is it called a bass pedal?) screwed up during one of the newer songs, and one
of drew's strings broke :(

tristan psionic were ok, the inbreds really rawk!

after the inbreds played, the bouncers came around to get rid of anyone who's
not 19+. me being 19 (i am!!! honest!!! so what if i look like a 13 year
old.. grumble grumble..), i got to stay with my friends for the next show
(without paying again!!). so during that time, we talked to drew of super
friendz. yes, we were trying to bond with him (being of the same heritage
y'know :) ) he's such a nice guy :) and i also talked to (derek) mackenzie
of hip club groove. he's a real fun and nice guy! it was his birthday
yesterday, too.

so super friendz hit the stage again after 10pm. before they played, i asked
matt if they were gonna play the same set, but he said that they weren't, but
asked if it was ok and if i wanted the same set, and i set no, that's ok, and
then he said that he felt bad for keeping some of the set the same... what a
sweetie!! anyways, the set was different from the previous show; some
different songs, a different order. compared to the first gig, there was
less 'energy' -- slower, not so poppier songs (i missed "karate man"..). the
drums were ok, and the only thing that went wrong was matt's guitar string
breaking! at that point he says "is this still the first show?". ;)

it was getting late, so after the super friendz, my cuz and i decided to
leave. we started the night with the super friendz, and ended it with the
super friendz... :D

some other observations:
- drew looks like his father!!!
- jay was there!! he looks soooooooooooooo adorable in his specs!
- they had copies of the super friendz album there.... (i'm waiting for my
order from murder...)
- the super friendz single looks different; it has a red border now. wasn't
it blue or green before??
- andrew scott is friggin' tall!! (or maybe i'm *real* short.. :'( )
- criss smurfi doesn't remember his fans.. <insert my chris murphy story
here, but i don't think anyone wants to read it so i won't..>
- sizzle teen means absolutely nothing.. just the name of a group from out
west...

hi's all around, especially to d'arcy (wow, i got to be the *first* netter
she's met!! i'm sooooo honoured, but i hope she's not disappointed!) (gotta
get her zine!), and the guys in yellow label (sorry, i forgot your names! i
know one is gord... please remind me of your names!)! :)

oooo, can't wait for sloanfest/edgefest 3!

..sizzle teen (still using the alias, although it has no meaning)
